No borders for cyclists in Europe
Ten years ago it was a crazy idea, a gamble, a vision, to cycle from Germany to Italy in two days. Ten years later, travelling without borders is even more of a need, a dream, the true way to breathe bike and freedom. Rando Imperator turns ten in 2025, ten editions that have taken you to unexplored worlds: and we are not talking about gpx tracks, but about moods, friendships, questions that you carried around from Munich to Bozen and Ferrara. They turned into mud-encrusted tears, into smiles that broke that mud and brought out who you really were. It was another world, ten years, today perhaps the European randonnée seems easier, let’s say it, but in the end every time it is always different: because of the weather, because of how you feel, because of who you will meet riding along the Via Claudia Augusta.
In the spring of 2025, the journey that truly takes you somewhere else returns: Witoor’s European randonnée, the one that connects Germany to Italy, passing through Austria and Switzerland. And to celebrate this special birthday, we have launched the official 1200 km ring route: from Ferrara to Munich to Ferrara, from 1 to 4 May 2025. The first part will be a completely new route to Munich, the second will include the 600 km brevet that will take you back to Ferrara together with the other randonneurs.
The Alps crossed by bike, 1200 km from Italy to Germany and then back to Italy, from Ferrara to Munich to Ferrara: the only randonnée that crosses four different countries doubles its route with a new ring route.
In just 4 days, Rando Imperator 1200 km will let you experience everything you can encounter by bike: from the Euganean Hills with the village of Arquà Petrarca, to cities of art such as Padua and Treviso, entering the heart of the Alps in Cortina, admiring the Dolomites, descending into the Pusteria Valley, and then Tyrol with Innsbruck and Bavaria up to Munich. From this point on, the route resumes the Rando Imperator 600 you already know: from the green Bavaria in Germany to the Austrian climbs of Tyrol, then the Val Venosta in Alto Adige, Bolzano and the descent to the South along the Adige, passing through Trento, along the Mincio to Mantua, then the banks of the Po river until you get to Ferrara.
On the tenth anniversary of the Rando Imperator, in 2025, Witoor has chosen to launch a 1200 km track as a natural evolution of a randonnée that was first born from a 300 km route from Bolzano to Ferrara, then in 2015 doubled to become the Rando Imperator along the Via Claudia Augusta. Today, ten years and ten editions later, it doubles again to celebrate the anniversary. The chosen route always follows the ancient Roman roads: the other variant of the Via Claudia Augusta reaches Monaco heading towards Feltre and the Belluno area, today known as the Monaco-Venice cycle route.
Rando Imperator Ferrara–Munich–Ferrara is the new 1200 km randonnée mainly on cycle paths along the Monaco-Venice on the outward journey, and the Via Claudia Augusta on the return journey, the ancient Roman road that connected the Danube to the Po river and the Adriatic sea. A unique route to write your own history and feel like Emperors.
