Ten years ago we decided to take a story and take it even further. A route that linked Ferrara to Bolzano, the plains to the mountains, in 2015 went beyond Italy to start even further away, from Germany, from Munich. We were inspired by an ancient Roman route that went down from Bavaria towards the Po Valley, the Via Claudia Augusta, and so we changed the name of Witoor’s randonnée to “Rando Imperator”. Ten years later it may all sound a bit too historical, but that philological inspiration has simply become our way of traveling without borders. Every year, for all its ten editions so far, the European randonnée has been mixing voices – your voices – coming from different nations, from Italy, of course, and from Germany, and a bit from the rest of the world. We tried to fit everything in that imaginary suitcase that we have been carrying here and there from the Alps for ten years; everything you can see on a bike, from mountains to lakes and rivers, from cities to small villages, everything you can face on a bike, from the sun to the storm, from the sun to extreme cold, from the straights to the climbs and hairpin bends and descents. Above all, everything you can experience on a bike in just two days: the excitement, the fear, the wait, the surprise, the confirmations and disappointments, the joy, the adrenaline, the discouragement, the fatigue. Making it and not making it: and finding out that perhaps it’s not there that lies the difference. In 10 years and 10 editions of Rando Imperator there is all of this, and much more is ready to come out, in a month, at the dawn of a new journey: always with your lungs, your hearts without borders.

Rando Imperator is the European randonnée that crosses the heart of Europe, on both sides of the Alps, and lets you ride without borders from Germany to Italy. Sign up online.
